Reid Legato
~AVENGER~

It appeared that Rebecca was all too familiar with the lilies from Reid's childhood, and NOT in a good way. As she recounted her previous experience with the pesky plant the sniffles had already began to come forth from her body. The blue haired beauty soon retreated to the shade of a nearby tree and began taking books out of her bag, offering to tutor Reid in math.

Sitting down by her side, Reid leaned against the broad trunk of the tree; feeling the rough bark against his hand as he touched it. Nature had always found a way to calm his nerves and today was no different. A soothing breeze whipped its way across the garden, it's warming touch assuring the students that summer weather still existed despite their confinement to the school. A day like today would certainly see a lot of cutting classes by some of the less involved students of Ashford.

Returning his thoughts to the matter at hand, Reid replied ”Well, I’d better take it now while you’re offering. So, are you some kind of math wiz or something?”

It was funny, Reid could shoot a target from a distance while accounting for gravity and wind drop but give him a pencil and an equation and he was the most useless Britannian on the face of the earth. Most of the problem probably stemmed from the fact that he hadn’t attended an actual school of learning since he entered the Kururugi Academy two years ago. Coming to Ashford was almost like being sent to summer school for him. Having to play catch up on top of the student council business and scouting out potential enemy and friendly combatants was more overwhelming that he had initially thought. Maybe he did need a little bit of tutoring. Becca certainly seemed more than enthusiastic in her offering so why not take her up on the offer?

Looking over to the small girl Reid jokingly inquired ”So, what will this tutoring of yours cost me? hmm?” He then laughed and leaned back against the tree again.

Becca briefly clasped her hands together in delight. She wasn't quite sure that Reid would accept her offer. She was no teacher, but she sure knew her way around a math textbook. She giggled at Reid's inquiry before whipping out one last notebook from her bag.

"I was always first in class when it came to mathematics. I was tutored on school evenings, and my mother forced me to study my school work over the weekends. Not the most pleasant of pastimes, but I guess it all paid off in the long run."

Reid's next question caused her to tilt her head slightly in confusion. If anything, she had decided to repay him for showing her such a wonderful garden by tutoring him. It seems like he felt she had some sort of ulterior motives for her offer? A lips curled into a smirk and she began to clip through one of her notebooks for a suitable set of problems to work on. She didn't blame him for thinking such a way after she'd done nothing but teased him the entire day.

"My, my, I haven't the faintest clue what you're trying to imply I want, Mr. Legato. I simply noticed my fellow classmate seems to be sinking in math class. It's only polite to offer a hand of guidance to someone who's so desperately in need of help. A certain someone was kind enough to show me around even after I've caused so much trouble. You can pay me back by buying me lunch. I'll eat whatever you recommend."

With that, she presented a group of problems similar to the ones taught earlier in class. She thoroughly began to work step by step to solve the equations. After that, she shuffled through her notebook and ripped out a fresh piece of paper. She presented an extra pencil soon after and handed both to her student.

"Okay, Now that I've explained everything, I want you to work these out exactly like I taught you. If you follow that order, you should be able to solve any problem of this kind with little effort."

Right as she mentioned that last comment, she could hear someone approaching. She figured it to be simply another one of Reid's harem. Much to her surprise, it wasn't a girl, but a young man who hovered over them. Rebecca tilted her head up to get a good look at his facial features. His hair tinted a pleasant shade of auburn, and his eyes a bright hue of green. Definitely a very handsome young man; a seemingly common trend here at Ashford Academy.

"Hello there, I couldn't help but notice you from earlier. My name is Kain, we're in the same math class. I figured I should be the first to welcome you to Ashford. I was wondering if you would be interested in letting me show you around? There's plenty more to see other than this garden here."

It was as if he had completely ignored Reid's presence. This fact alone was enough to cause Becca to let out a giggle.

"Oh, thank you very much for your warm welcome. I'm Rebecca Buchanan, and this guy over here is Reid Legato. While I thank you for your offer, Reid has already offered to show me around the school. Perhaps some other time? Now um, I'm teaching him a few equations, so I'll catch you later?"

Glaring at Mr. Legato, Kain plopped down into the grass beside Becca and declared that he too needed some help in algebra.

~AVENGER~

So it appeared the Becca had been forced into some kind of strict schoolwork regime at a younger age in her life. Reid couldn’t quite remember if he had ever been forced to study that hard in his life. His parents had always been rather loose with his studies, instead attempting to prepare him to take over the family business when he came of age. That was all before the incident though. In any case, he was glad to have made the acquaintance of someone like Becca who seemed to have no problems with helping him.

Her next response intrigued Reid even more. She seemed to be coyly implying that she had no ulterior motives in helping Reid study, despite the way she had been acting for the majority of the day. Reid wasn’t sure what to think of his newly made friend but decided to take her at her word, especially when she sneaked in a demand that Reid pay for her lunch that day.

Deciding that would be a fair price Reid replied ”You got it! Lunch is on me today! with a smile.

Becca then began to work out some problems on a sheet of paper that she had acquired from one of her notebooks. As Reid watched her long pen strokes he noted how clear and legible her handwriting was, clearly the work of someone who took great time and care to make her notes. Within seconds she had worked out a handful of equations that would have taken Reid the better part of an hour, even adding notes to describe the methods she used. She then handed Reid a pencil along with his own sheet of paper and motioned for him to get to work.

Before he could set to his task the sound of approaching footsteps drew his attention. Looking up, Reid was greeted to the sight of a young boy about his age. Reid had recognized him to be Kain, a young student that was also in Becca and Reid’s math class. He and Reid had had brief interactions before but nothing too major. Reid liked the boy well enough but Kain seemed to have no love for Reid. As he offered to show Becca around Ashford Reid couldn’t control his facial expressions, his mouth twisting into a slight frown. While he hadn’t assumed any type of connection with Becca Reid did assume that she didn’t want to spend time with Kain.

His thoughts were confirmed when Rebecca had politely but firmly declined his advances. Kain, nevertheless undeterred, plopped himself down on the side of Becca and declared himself a part of their study group. Saying nothing, Reid proceeded to finish her examples and then declared ”Just.. About… Done! Here, I think I did these right? Can you check these over?”

Becca raised an eyebrow once Kain had decided to plop down next to her in the grass. Not wanting to offend, yet curious, she prepared to address him once more.

"U-Um, is there something else I could assist you with?"

"Yeah, I was only hoping I could sit in and listen? I'm not the best at math myself and-"

Kain's words were abruptly cut off by Reid's sudden declaration of completing his equations. Jolting upright, Rebecca grasped the paper from her student's hands and began to scan its contents. As her eyes moved further and further down the sheet, she nodded her head repeatedly. With a gleam in her eye, she whipped out her red pen. Becca then began to furiously scribble all over the assignment. The whole time, her expression remaining completely stone faced. It wasn't until she had ceased grading the paper that her familiar cheerful grin once again revealed itself. She handed the paper back to Reid; A large score of "100" sat at the top.

"See?! I knew you could do it if you really put your mind to it. Now if you just remember to do these exactly as I've taught you, you'll ace that upcoming test on Friday. Remember to come to me if you need anymore help. I wouldn't want to fry your brain by going over the whole textbook...yet."

"W-Well those problems are simp-"

"Oh goodness me, isn't it almost lunch time already? I'm quite famished and my breakfast was just a lone slice of toast. I feel eager to see how the cuisine here at school is in comparison to my last."

"Well, we have lobster, caviar-"

"Ah, we should hurry Reid, we don't want to be late. I fear the line my grow too long." Interjected Becca once more, seemingly not even realizing what she'd been doing.

With that, she began to pack up her materials. Kain, looking a bit annoyed, felt as if he'd somehow been ignored. How could anyone ignore him? He was Kain, one of the most popular boys in school. Girls fawned over him, claiming he looked as if he stepped right out of one of those anime television programs. Teachers praised him for his excellence in his studies. Yet here he was, being ignored because of some ant. Or at least, that was how he would describe one Mr. Legato. Shaking his fist in fury, he then pointed a finger right in Reid's face.

"I-I challenge you! Whoever scores the highest in the upcoming quiz earns the right to be Miss Rebecca's escort! Don't think I'll go easy on someone like you! I'll have you know that..."

His words trailed off once more once he realized that Becca had already begun to walk toward the school building once more. His mouth hanging wide open for a moment, his fury then resumed once more upon turning back to his new rival.

"Don't think this is the end of me, Mr. Legato. If that is your real name!" screeched Kain, causing a few students to gaze in their direction in utter puzzlement.

With that, the young man stormed off to whatever his next class had been.

School never got easier, or more bearable for that matter, for Wendy, though she never voiced her complaints out in the open. Not that she had to. As she strolled through the corridors on her way to lunch, those around her knew to stay far, far away from her whenever she scrunched her face up like she were smelling a pack of rotten eggs; it meant she was in the foulest of moods. Her anger today stemmed from getting back her calculus test score. Math was never her greatest subject, but seeing a big, fat letter F written in obnoxious, scarlet ink made her face turn a similar shade.

This is bullshit,” she snarled under her breath, crumpling the paper up and tossing it over her shoulder (where it incidentally hit a boy passing by right between the eyes). Gritting her teeth, she supposed getting upset over meaningless exam scores was stupid considering she only attended Ashford Academy as a spy, but she still had her pride. She couldn't even recall messing up that many answers to warrant such a low grade. “That teacher's got it in for me. Everyone knows he's an Eleven lover.

Her reputation as being less than amicable toward the Japanese was well known by now throughout Ashford. As such, most naturally stayed away from her, while others approached her curiously, unsure if the nasty rumors about her were true. Then of course, there was a small facet of people who sympathized with her ideals, not openly naturally, but it was true. These were the exact people the Britannian Restoration League tasked her with recruiting, though the job wasn't going so well admittedly. No one, not even those she assumed on her side, dared speak to her lest people be talking about them behind their backs too.

Her stomach growled. Rubbing it, Wendy hoped eating would help alleviate some of her stress because at the moment, she was ready to stuff someone in a locker and make sure it could never be opened again, maybe one of the people eying and whispering about her as she made her way past them. She clenched her fists tightly to suppress her bubbling rage and to prevent herself from blowing her cover as she shuffled into the already packed cafeteria.

These freaks don't waste a second when trying to eat, huh?

She hopped into the lunch line, cutting in front of a pair of Japanese students who were busy chatting away. They protested her rudeness, but she shot them a sharp glance over her shoulder that shut them up good. Her attention moved onto what Ashford's cooks had come up with today. She liked the school's food just fine; she was convinced, however, that anything she whipped up beat it by a wide margin. Unfortunately, she forgot to make lunch today, having fallen asleep early after staying up late doing some surveillance on what shaky BRL intelligence told her was a Black Knight outpost. She wasn't shocked to find nothing of interest instead, but by the time she did, her evening had already been wasted.

With her food in hand (just a simple cheeseburger and some fries) Wendy found an empty seat, an easy prospect with no one daring to be caught at the same table as her out of fear and revulsion. Only the bravest of brave remained where she chose, and she picked a spot at the far end away from them. Being more than accustomed to this, she didn't bat an eyelash. The sooner she finished her lunch, the sooner she could leave, and the sooner another miserable school day would be over.

Before Reid could even get a chance to gather his bearings or decipher what exactly he had just been included in Becca had already begun to stride off in the direction of the cafeteria. Spinning around, Reid chased after the impetuous young girl. Much like the other girls that Reid had encountered during his brief time at Ashford Becca was proving to be more trouble than she was worth.

”Hmph, she’ll have to tutor me anyway so this all falls on her. I should fail on purpose just so she has to deal with that guy.”

Entering into the cafeteria Reid turned to his companion and said ”Well, welcome to the esteemed Ashford Academy cafeteria; the sole reason that half of these students keep returning to school everyday. You want any type of cuisine chances are they have it here. Everything is paid for by your tuition and all meals are one flat fee for whatever you want. Just use your student ID and you’ll be set. I’ve got your meal today though.”

Stepping into line, Reid beckoned Rebecca to come join him. It appeared that some type of disturbance must have happened before he and Becca entered the room as an air of tension still hung above the students and some were grumbling about a rather rude individual. Reid had a pretty good idea who they were referring to but he hoped that he was wrong.

Finally reaching the spot in line for ordering Reid looked to the lunch worker and said ”Mr. Takagaki! I’ve gotta have the special again, it was so delicious!” The elderly gentleman behind the glass smiled and began preparing a meal. After a short wait Reid was presented with a box lunch that contained teriyaki beef with green peppers, Cabbage strands and a helping of white rice. A pair of chopsticks was tenderly stuck within the mound of rice. Nodding in delight, Reid waited for Becca to collect her meal so that he could pay.

Rebecca trailed behind her escort and hopped behind him in the lunch line. The boisterous cafeteria greatly contrasted from the peaceful garden they'd been sitting in. She found it hard to adjust her hearing and focus on what Reid had been saying. From what she could decipher, he was simply telling her where they were and how the food program worked here at Ashford. Seems like everything was just the same as her previous school. What wasn't the same, obviously, was the abundance of Japanese cuisine being served. It was something she'd never been interested in trying prior, but her stomach growled once the aromas of said foods wafted from their dishes. Further down the line seemed to be food she was more familiar with. Reid, however, hadn't even made it that far down the line before deciding on his meal choice. He got chummy with the man behind the counter before being handed a box of some sorts. Although she didn't get a peek at it's contents, the smell alone caused her to gulp in hunger.

"Well, you obviously know best. I'll just have what you're having."

The man behind the counter, seemingly delighted that Becca had chosen the same dish, handed her the same box, veggies, and rice. She found it quite hard to be rude to the man after seeing him beaming so brightly. Shifting her eyes left and right, she quietly thanked him and pushed her tray forward along the lunch line. As expected, an array of desserts were neatly organized onto tiny dishes before her. She didn't hesitate to go for a slice of strawberry cheesecake and plop the dish down onto her tray. After choosing a bottle of water as her drink of choice, Rebecca had finally completed her meal. Now it was a matter of where to sit. It seemed as if every table had been occupied by a mixed group of students, blissfully consuming their meals and conversing amongst themselves of this and that. After a second scan, she could spied a lunch table occupied by a single Britannian girl.

"Hmm...pretty sure she wouldn't mind me sitting there if I don't bother her." she mumbled to herself before shuffling over to the table.

At the opposite end from the girl, Rebecca placed her tray down on the table and took a seat. It wasn't until she stared down at the contents of her meal that she noticed a pair of sticks jotting out from her mound of rice. She raised an eyebrow, wondering just what they'd been for. Not only that, but it seems that the man had forgotten to give her a fork for her meal. She groaned to herself upon the realization that she would have to hop back into the lunch line to inquire about a utensil. Or perhaps these strange sticks were what she was supposed to use instead? How would that even work? She glanced back at the rowdy crowd of students swarming the food area, and decided it would be best if she instead inquired about the foreign utensils she'd been provided with. It seemed that Reid hadn't arrived at the table yet, and her only option was to either wait or ask the girl at the end of the table.

"A-Ah..." was all that managed to slip form her lips before giving up.

The girl extruded an aura that Rebecca could easily read as, "Don't bother me." Sighing, she removed the sticks from her rice and began to fumble with them.
